Creating a new revenue stream for Sainsbury’s Online

Starting with blank sheet of paper and pioneering agile product development, we delivered Click & Collect Groceries for Sainsbury’s. Customers could order and collect their groceries the same day!

The challenge

A customer was required to order their online shopping by 11pm the night before delivery. One hour delivery slots meant that the delivery might arrive at any time in the hour. The busy customer wanted to make an order on the day, may not be able to accurately predict when they would get home from work, and didn’t always want to wait up to an hour for the delivery.

The solution

Click & Collect Groceries allowed customers to decied what they wanted for dinner in the morning, place the order and pick up their shopping on their way home from work and get cracking on dinner right away!

Initially we piloted in tube stations and this was then rolled out accross stores.

The result

By pioneering agile product development at Sainsbury’s we went from concept to pilot delivery within 4 months!

Sainsbury’s gained a viable operating model for a new revenue stream. The product has now been rolled out to over 1,000 stores nationwide.
